Frequently Asked Questions

90% of top lenders use FICO® Credit Scores, including Discover. That's why Discover provides a FICO® Score, as opposed to another type of credit score. Regularly seeing your Credit Scorecard can help you prepare for the future, stay on top of your credit or avoid surprises.

Your score is calculated using positive and negative information on your TransUnion® credit report. It summarizes your risk to lenders at a specific point in time. FICO® Scores consider the following 5 categories of information. The breakdown below illustrates the significance of these categories for the general population. Note, however, that your individual score may give some factors more or less importance based on the information in your credit report.

  • Payment history: 35%
  • Amount you owe: 30%
  • Length of credit history: 15%
  • New credit opened: 10%
  • Types of credit you have: 10%

You may not see your Credit Scorecard including your FICO® Score if:

  • You have mismatched or missing information, like an address change that hasn't been updated with either Discover or TransUnion®.
  • Your account status is abandoned, bankrupt, fraud, lost or stolen, closed, revoked or charged off.
  • You have a foreign address.
  • Your credit history is too new.
  • You have opted out.
  • You've had no account activity for 180 days.

Your FICO® Credit Score, key factors and other credit information are based on data from TransUnion® and may be different from other credit scores and other credit information provided by different bureaus. This information is intended for and only provided to Primary account holders who have an available score. See Discover.com/FICO about the availability of your score. Your score, key factors and other credit information are available on Discover.com and cardmembers are also provided a score on statements. Customers will see up to a year of recent scores online. Discover and other lenders may use different inputs, such as FICO® Credit Scores, other credit scores and more information in credit decisions. This benefit may change or end in the future. FICO is a registered trademark of Fair Isaac Corporation in the United States and other countries.
